Age:33
Graduated with a B average in international business from Canada, but also studied in both Mexico and Spain. Worked for a small commercial mortgage broker through a government internship that allowed me to live again out of country, then went on to work for an international development bank back in Canada. At 26 with 2.5 years at the bank and becoming a CFA chart holder, I decided that finance no longer excited and created a multi-disciplinary medical office-wrote business plan and raised 500k in start up. Have been running it for the last 5 years.
Expect to hit around 690-720 on GMAT in early January.
Looking at-HBS, Sloan, NYU, Columbia, Haas
Thoughts are really appreciated.
Would also love some ideas of who should be asked for reference other than MD who is my business partner. Current thoughts:
At this point I’ve come up with 6 possible choices:
My former boss from the development bank-downside being that it was over 7 years ago.
The president of my condominium board where I’m currently serving as the board’s treasurer.
A former employee who worked with the organization for 4 years. Former employee logic being that she is no longer forced to be biased with her recommendation and can talk directly about my leadership capabilities.
A client. While I don’t deal with them on a day to day basis, they can certainly attest to how the business is run and how it’s helped them.
A friend who I studied and worked with previous to starting my own company who currently holds a fancy title at major accounting firm.
A commercial banker who my company deals with. He has a strong understanding of the business I helped create as well as my role.
