Can anybody tell me what my odds are at Chicago (Booth)? 11 Jan 2010, 15:55

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this, I am new to this sight. I am entering the University of Chicago Law school this coming Fall and am interested in applying to Booth during my first year and pursuing a joint JD/MBA. I will only have one year of work experience when I apply (working for a consulting firm right now... not McKinsey/Bain/BCG think next tier down... Booz Allen, Accenture, etc..). With a 3.5 Undergraduate, a ~ 750 GMAT score, my one year of work experience (strong recommendations) and my attendance at the Chicago Law School, do I have a shot at getting into Booth?

You'll have to hope the law school admit carries a lot more weight than most schools admit to in situations like this. If you weren't in law school, I'd say you're almost guaranteed a ding with 1 year of work experience.

How old are you?

I agree with PBateman on the work experience. Although they certainly don't deter early career applicants, have a look at Rose's blog for info. Also, what's the worst that can happen? You apply and they ding you? You can try applying second year then maybe, or just park it and do it later.

I'll be 22 when I apply to Booth (graduated a year early from undergrad). Thanks for the replies, I'll just have to put a lot of effort into the rest of my application and see what's possible.
