Hi Alex,
I am applying for a top 5 MBA program for 2011 matriculation. I was researching the big PE firms in US and noticed that firms like KKR, Blackstone and others have offices in India. If I were to get into a top US MBA program how easy/difficult would it be to get recruited into the India office of KKR/Blackstone or the other big PE firms?
Are the Indian offices merely number crunching back offices or are they involved in real PE work?
I am an Indian citizen but I have studied and worked in US for 4-5 years. I come from a very well connected family in India and have close contacts with the big/small business houses as well as high level government and legal contacts and I think it will be something valuable that I would bring to the table at a PE shop apart from my educational background. My pre-MBA experience is not in finance/IB/or any other PE related jobs.
I know that the big PE shops in India do not recruit directly from the top Indian business schools (IIM/ISB) and that is why I am planning to get my MBA in US so that I at least get to meet students with pre-MBA PE experience.
What do think?
