Male, 27 years old, from Belarus (Eastern Europe)
Undegrad: Mathematics (minor-Business adm) GPA 3.78--not a top school
Master's: Mechanical Engineering, GPA 3.8---not a top school
GMAT-710, Q-48, V-39
I have not decided on the MBA concentration yet (just took GMAT on Apr 12).
Target schools (interested in top 10, in particular):
-Harvard
-Wharton
-Booth
-Berkeley
-LBS
Work expirience:
3 years (including part time/internship) for one of the largest russian steelmaking company Severstal. Worked on the start up of the new steel plant in Mississippi. Currently I'm in the position of the Project Engineer, work closely with production and management.
Before that I had some exposure to the comercial transportation insurance business (less than a year).
After MBA I would like to stay in Manufacturing sector, and will consider moving to Belarus/Russia or any other emerging market country.
My question is how realistic are my ambitions? Can my GMAT score be an issue if I will apply to one of the top10 and what school would you recomend. I know I'm lacking on leadership and community side of the profile. Your advice will be appreciated.

Instead of Berkeley and Booth, you may want to consider Kellogg and Sloan(MIT) -- both have strong ties to manufacturing with Kellogg's MMM program and Sloan's LFM program (although you don't necessarily need to enroll in these specific programs).
In any case, I'd say that you have an outside shot at HBS -- enough that it's worth at least giving it a shot. The other schools you should be competitive for, although no "real" safeties but so long as you put in some strong applications, you should get into at least one of them (one of Kellogg, Sloan, LBS, Wharton, HBS, Booth, Berkeley). While I wouldn't say schools "favor" old-school engineering (manufacturing/auto/aerospace/petroleum/civil/etc) vs. software/tech, it seems like historically the engineers from old school disciplines tend to have an easier time with the application process compared to the IT/software/wireless guys.

Alex, thank you for a quick reply and suggestions. I will definetly look more closely into the Kellogg and Sloan programs. What would be your suggestions for expireinces that show leadership? Can you also point out the attributes of strong application? What are the parts of the application I should pay particular attention to? I just begin to reasearch schools and application process, co any advice in the direction of a search would help.
