Program Interested: MBA (FT)
Area of Interest: Management Consulting
GMAT: Plan to take in fall 2010
GPA: Bachelor of Commerce –Accounting (University of Ottawa) Honors (5.9/10)
Our school does not have a B- average. An(5.9/10) is equivalent to a C+ average and a(6/10) is equivalent to a B average.
Work Experience: 1 Year at Philip Morris as a Senior Financial Analyst (Financial Reporting) & 2 Years at Johnson & Johnson Inc. (Corporate Finance)
Nationality: Chinese Canadian
Age: 24 (Will be 25 when I apply)
Gender: M
Extra-Curricular: Vice-President on Management Student Council and some NFP community volunteering
I also hold a Canadian accounting designation (CMA), and I am also working towards completing the CPA in September 2010.
I plan to apply to the following schools below:
UCLA, Berkeley, Duke, Dartmouth, Yale, Cornell, Northwestern, Columbia, Ivey (Canada), and Rotman (Canada).
My greatest concern is that my GPA is too low for the schools I want to apply to.
From reading your earlier posts, I know that I need to aim for 800’s in the GMAT to be competitive for admissions in any of the schools I’ve listed above, but what are my chances getting into any of the schools listed above given my current status? Also, can you provide any recommendations for me to boost my chances of admissions success?

To be blunt, the biggest potential pitfall for you isn't your grades.
It's that you risk coming across as one-dimensional.
Your profile comes across as a little too much "all business, all the time" to the point where adcoms will have doubts about how dynamic of an individual you are. It may seem like a good thing that you're all business -- but it can also come across as too one-dimensional (read: boring) - you did commerce/accounting in college, you work in big corporate environments, you are spending your free time going after your CMA and CPA (which is fine if you want to be an accountant - but you're not applying to b-school to be an accountant).
I can't tell you how to be more dynamic -- that is something you have to figure out on your own as it's your life and your career. But nonetheless whatever happens you need to be able to bring your individuality, personality and dynamism to the table when crafting your application. It's not about going out there and doing something crazy or out of character for you, but about *how* you communicate and convey who you are in the applications - personality will count for a lot in your case.
This probably won't be an issue for schools like Ivey, Rotman - but for the US schools (which you listed are all in the top 16), your ability to come across as dynamic will be what will likely make or break you.
