Thanks for the response
I was thinking about MBA, because I when I was looking at consulting jobs, to advance after a certain point, (with this company Sr. consultant (5-7years) or with others associate) an MBA is suggested. Also MBA, I think, allows more flexibility in career options especially since I am from a science background.
At this point I am not exactly sure what I want to do. I am interested in career where I have some advancement prospects. I found industry jobs difficult to come by with my Pre-Med background that weren't in research labs. Consulting was a field where a business/econ/finance major wasn't required. I don't really know if I will end of liking it, but I feel that if I do that now it might give me more "translatable skills" that I could take to another career. If I like it I could stay in it.
If I stay in consulting, I would like to move toward the management consulting side. I am really quite open, but I want a lucrative field.
I am not too knowledgeable, from what I have heard post MBA popular options are
1. management
2. consulting
3. finance/i-banking.
Am I correct to assume this? What are other post-MBA tracks? Are there any you would suggest that I have a chance of entering with these jobs? Would the software job limit these? If I was a CS major instead of life sciences, I would feel more comfortable taking it, because then IT consulting and other IT careers is a possibility. I think that with my life science background despite my experience I may gain at this job (SQL, C, Java, Oracle, software implementation) I would not get hired or be able to got to IT jobs. I was selected here because this software is implemented in science labs, but not all of IT takes place in science labs.
I think the software job will be more interesting and more "fun" and the starting salary and benefits is better initially. Also the parent company is planning to expand so there may be some opportunities there. There is management positions which recommend an MBA, available after 5 years, however, as I mentioned earlier, I don't want to be stuck. I know that some treat the MBA as a career switch point and I don't want that possibility diminished with the software job.
I would like the software job, but I feel I should take the pharma consulting job. If you need more information from me please let me know. I really, really appreciate your help an input.
