Hi Alex,
Need your help to provide some input about the school range I should focus on this year (for R1).
General:
Female/Taiwanese/25yr/720/GPA 3.2/Engineering under from the top school in my country /WE ~4yr when apply at R1: 2yr engineer, 1yr&4months program manager, 3months ~now marketing/brand management
Work experience:
At the beginning of my career, I went to a famous US chip company development center because of the chance to work on the cross-country projects with team members from US HQ and also to gain more solid experience of the development process. After 2 years experience I switch to a Taiwan brand company (fortune 500) to be the strategic vendor management, I was in charge of partner strategic alliance program to plan on global promotion program and some innovative products with our business partner (a software giant…). Thanks to the ability to manage the global project and solid technical background, I was invited to join global marketing team and work on the sub brand build-up after being 1.5 years program manager. Now I am still work with big vendors to negotiate for more resources on co promotion activities.
In my college time, I have lots of fund raising experience for our departments’ activities and graduation activities. I started early to deal with those companies to persuade them investing their money, and I extend this specialty to my first job. I helped my department to get sponsorship from my first company and build up long term recruitment relationship. For other extracurricular activities such as community services, I always worked on the role to build up the relationship and get the sponsorship.
Short term: management consulting (Do you think this is somewhat achievable for me?)
Long term: back to tech industry and focus on strategy planning role
After reading your post about the cultural problem of Asians, I think I will try to make myself not too technical/analytical. I plan to apply for Kellogg, Wharton, Chicago, UCLA and Duke (Any other school recommend?). Do you think I can take a try on HBS or there’s no need to throw my money into water? Please kindly help to evaluate my profile. Thanks Alex.
