I was wondering what the best protocol to use is for recommendations.
I have gotten my recommenders on board and provided them with my reasons for going back to school, list of schools, points to highlight, my strategy/"pitch", etc.
However, I'm now at the point where I need to get them working on the rec forms. I have sent them the online links to the forms for the schools I'm applying to.
My question is two-fold:1) Should I just let them run with these forms and fill them out as they see fit? Or should I help guide them throughout, perhaps calling them 1-2 times a week to see how they're coming?
2) Should I have them submit a Letter of Recommendation in addition to the forms they are filling out? I've seen this in the Montauk book and wonder if a letter would add even more weight behind what they are expected to write in the online recommendation forms.
What do you suggest?

1) I don't think you can just let all recommenders run with it. I thinkyou should check in at least once a week and remind them of approaching deadline while asking if they need additional information from you. REgarding guidance, some of the answer depends on the the recommender. Some recommenders will resent any attempt at guidance. If so, don't do it. Others will welcome it and will work with you. If your recommenders are the latter, then sure. Provide guidance.
2) If one individual completes the form with good, substantive answers, he or she should NOT submit a letter in addition unless the school asks for a letter in addition to the form. Now if you are waitlisted, then this advice would change. Then you want additional letters of support from your supervisors, peers, etc.
