Hey everyone,

I am just looking into taking the GMAT and to which schools I would like to apply. BYU is on my short list because it matches my values but also because it is cheap. I am wondering if anyone has any thoughts on a BYU MBA vs a top 25 MBA. Pros and cons, 1st or 2nd hand experience, etc.

I don't think you should choose a b-school because it's cheap. The question should be about how much does the industry you're interested in recruited in that campus because I believe the bigger part of an MBA is the networking aspect (not to undermine the knowledge factor though)

Thanks Ozzie. I agree with you that cost shouldn't be the primary consideration. Having said that, looking at rankings, etc. it appears that the BYU Marriott School offers a good education and has the added advantage of being cheap. I am wondering if anyone has an opinion to offer about the Marriott School that will help me feel like I am not just considering it because of the price.

I went to BYU for undergrad. It's a great clean campus. Especially if you don't drink, (I'm LDS and I don't) BYU is a lot of fun, with a lot of campus activities and good sports teams. BYU is a decent size school with about 30,000 students so there is a lot to do.

BYU has exposure to many great business leaders with connections to the school, like Bill Marriott, Steven Covey and Michael Rollins (former CEO of Dell).

I've never heard of BYU's program specifically. If I saw it show up on a resume, I'd probably lump it in the Arizona, Miami, Georgia, etc pile mentally.--third tier+.

I absolutely wouldn't be giving the program its due (which isn't fair), but I'm not likely to stop and jump to BW every time I see a program I haven't heard of.

The good news is I just went and looked it up, so at least one more person knows it's probably a top-50 type program. :)

Still, if it's cheap and you think you'd feel more comfortable there, it's definitely worth consideration.

If you aren't mormon I wouldnt recommend BYU. The school has a solid rep and its alum are very loyal...but if you aren't mormon its not going to give you the same network.

Sorry, I got to disagree with you on this. Being Mormon has nothing to do with the networking at BYU. While the overall "Mormon network" may not be available to everyone, BYU gives non-mormons the same opportunities.
