Many political scholars believe that The Treaty of Versailles, the final peace treaty at the end of World War I, failed to reconcile the differences between the European nations, eventually leading to World War II

(A) failed to reconcile the differences between the European nations, eventually leading to World War II
(B) failing to reconcile the differences within the European nations eventually led to World War II
(C) failing to reconcile the differences between the European nations, eventually leading to World War II
(D) failed in reconciliation of the differences among the European nations and eventually lead to World War II
(E) failed to reconcile the differences among the European nations, eventually leading to World War II

failed vs failing:
We need a verb to describe The Treaty of Versailles.

failing introduces another modifier, and would be modifying.....believe? That doesn't make any sense.

Eliminate B and C

failed to reconcile vs failed in reconciliation.

failed in reconciliation of.... is passive voice.

Eliminate D

between vs among

Use among when comparing more than two parties.

Use between when comparing two parties.
Example: The best rivalry in college sports is between Duke and UNC.

Eliminate A
