In 1959, the Nobel Prize was awarded to the Czech chemist and inventor Jaroslav Heyrovsky for discovering and the development of the polarographic method of analysis.

A. the Czech chemist and inventor Jaroslav Heyrovsky for discovering and the development - Parallelism error. discovering is an unconjugated verb while development is a noun

B. Jaroslav Heyrovsky, the Czech chemist and inventor, for the discovery and developing - Parallelism error again. developing of is not the correct usage her

C. Jaroslav Heyrovsky, the Czech chemist and inventor, for discovering and developing - It corrects the parallelism error , but repeats error of Option C "developing of" is not the correct usage

D. the Czech chemist and inventor, Jaroslav Heyrovsky, for his discovery and development - Correct answer

E. a Czech chemist and inventor by the name of Jaroslav Heyrovsky for the discovery and development - by the name of makes the entire sentence awkward

Parallelism error. "DISCOVERING and THE DEVELOPMENT"

A. the Czech chemist and inventor Jaroslav Heyrovsky for discovering and the development - Parallelism error

B. Jaroslav Heyrovsky, the Czech chemist and inventor, for the discovery and developing -Parallelism error

C. Jaroslav Heyrovsky, the Czech chemist and inventor, for discovering and developing - Awkward connection due to ending with developing

I think the key difference between (D) and (E) is "the" vs "a". I selected (E) because the sentence starts with "the Nobel prize..." if it would've started with "A Nobel prize..." I would have selected (D)
D. the Czech chemist and inventor, Jaroslav Heyrovsky, for his discovery and development
E. a Czech chemist and inventor by the name of Jaroslav Heyrovsky for the discovery and development

IMO E

The Nobel prize is correct. 'The' is use to give a specific reference to the noun. Hence, ' The Nobel' is giving reference to the specific prize.
