classic cause and effect question.

immune system ----> protects from antisocial behavior + diseases.

D if antisocial behavior causes immune system to decrease,then the conclusion stands invalid.

I'll be honest. I didn't even look at the question and I picked the right answer 8-) Absolutely not a good practice, though.

This is a typical Assumption-Causality question where the question requires you to select the answer choice that refutes the opposite relation of the causality, ie you need to justify that the stated relationship is not reversed.

Simple question. D it is. The cause-effect relationship in the premises would not hold if the assumption in D were to be negated.

(C) Gorillas with high immune system activity cannot develop antisocial behavior - Argument doesn't discuss about gorillas with high IS. It mention only about gorillas with weak IS.
(D) Antisocial behavior does not cause gorillas immune system activity to decrease - If x --> y then for assumption/strengthen the argument, y --/--> x. Hence, correct
(E) Behavioral training to cure antisocial behavior is not as effective as pharmacological treatment - Irrelevant.

Hi,

Choice C is wrong because this choice is more extremely than the given information. The passage said that "A psychobiologist recently discovered that gorillas that have weakened immune systems tend to be more antisocial than do gorillas with normal or high immune system activity.". "tend to" doesn't mean that Gorillas with high immune system activity cannot develop antisocial behavior. Some Gorillas with high immune system activity could still develop antisocial behavior.

Choice D is correct because this choice prevent reverse cause. If antisocial behavior cause gorillas immune system activity to decrease, then psychobiologist's conclusion is damaged.
