Experts,

Please help me understand why D is OOS.

Ravi

Ravi,

The stem is asking the assumption on which farmers are planning to increase their grains proportion compared to other crops. With the usual logic one can say that with the increase in the supply of grains in the market, the prices tend to drop. But if you carefully read the para you will notice that majority of the farmers are hoping to gain handsome profits. It can be said that the price of grains is not based on the supply-demand market dynamics. hence, D clearly stats that and makes the argument complete.

many gmat questions are relating to an economic concept which is about the relationships among 3 elements: demand, supply, and price.

C reflects the relationship => more supply will not reduce price.

I understood why choice C is correct. But can someone give more thorough explanation for why choice D is incorrect?

(C)Prices on grain crops are high in Mordovia for reasons other than short supply of those crops.

Option C because if price rise is due to shortage of supply then next year price will comes down due to increase in supply. So the assumption for drawing the conclusion is C
