Several excellent candidates have been proposed for the presidency of United Wire and each candidate would bring to the job different talents and experience. If the others are compared with Jones, however, it will be apparent that none of them has her unique set of qualifications. Jones, therefore, is best qualified to be the new president of United Wire.

The argument is vulnerable to criticism on the ground that it

(A) uses flattery to win over those who hold an opposing position - WRONG. Easy elimination.

(B) refutes a distorted version of an opposing position - WRONG. The language is not like that that it would sound like refuting anything.

(C) seeks to distinguish one member of a group on the basis of something that applies to all - CORRECT. Uniqueness is what defines each of the members from others. So, one member's uniqueness can't be applied to all.

(D) supports universal claim on the basis of a single example - WRONG. Chose this for it took uniqueness as a sole example. But this is wrong for saying that the claim is universal. It is irrelevant at best.

(E) describes an individual in terms that appropriately refer only to the group as a whole - WRONG. Uniques set of qualifications is unique because it is not common among the group members.

Answer C.
