If grammar is in question, option 1 is definitely wrong. Notice 'more faster' anyone?

IMHO (A) as well

We are presented the following information -

Sales dip ↓ 10%
Consumption / Storage ↑ from 75% to 90%

This means that the items are consumed at a much slower pace given the premises "Warning of health concern by the Govt ", further the word " Average rate of consumption " solidifies the reasoning....

Hence (A) fits well , rather than (B)

if there we faster consumption of mayonise then the amount of bottles must decrease from75% rather than increaes < as it obvious that faster consumptions result in more piling of bottles

Should be B. OA seems to be wrong. The percentage of households that have mayo went up not the total mayo bottles stocked up in fridges. The statement makes sense only if the public in general started consuming less and the ones that consumed a lot before gave away their mayo to neighbors who didn’t have mayo

I'll try to explain why B is incorrect.

B states that people gave their bottles to their neighbours. Well, in that case, the only change that happened was that a mayo bottle moved from one house to a different house. And hence the number of people using mayo remained the same. If the number remained the same, then this option, in no way, explains the discrepancy, it just states that nothing changed except for the location of the mayo bottle.

For option B, if the families were giving the bottles to neighbours then families having mayonnaise should not increase.
But how does option A explain why families having mayonnaise increased from 75% to 90%?

To simplify things, the total mayo consumption = rate of consumption of each family * number of family consuming mayo. So even if there are more families having mayo, the total amount of consumption can still be low if the rate of consumption is lower.

A is right because people can buy more bottles but use them very sparingly now vs before, hence slower consumption but may have the bottles at home

The answer that makes sense to me is B(2)

As the discrepancy is --although the no of mayonnaise users decrease but the number of people who have the mayonnaise in their fridge increase so by pre thinking --the answers that came to me is either those people didn't get the updates about the campaign or the users gifted their previous stored mayonnaise to another users.

So B (2) is according to may pre thinking .
I am a learner but you can look this argument from this point of view.

The argument says mayonnaise sales fell by 10% after the government’s healthy eating campaign, yet the percentage of households that had a bottle of mayonnaise in their fridge increased from 75% to 90%.
Option (A) explains this by pointing to a slowdown in the rate of consumption. Before the campaign, people consumed mayonnaise quickly, which meant they finished bottles faster and had to buy new ones often. After the campaign, people started eating less mayonnaise, so each bottle lasted longer.
As a result:
  • Sales drop → because fewer bottles need to be replaced.
Now, they started eating less mayo which means that,
  • Household possession rises → because even though people buy less, the bottles they do buy remain in fridges for longer, so at the time of the survey more households are found with at least one bottle.
This resolves the apparent discrepancy.
