c) The degree of cheating on the test does not obscure each candidate’s personal

whats the point of cheating if the candidate cant hide his/her personality?
For starters, the candidate doesn't know that the test does not obscure their personality. Its something called "trying". I am trying to get a 700 in the GMAT knowing very well it is well out of my reach - but does it stop me trying?

Pre-thinking:

The paradox here is:

1) Employers are aware that the test is sometimes subject to cheating.
2) They will continue to use the test as a hiring screen.

We need to reconcile (1) and (2) ie; we are looking for a reason to continue using the test despite the cheating that occurs. Let us examine the answer options:

a ) Some candidates who cheat on the test are identified and are not hired This is a potential answer. The weakness is we do not know what "some" means - is it a large proportion of all candidates? Or only a few. At this point, we should hold on to this option.

b) It remains a better method of identifying appropriate candidates than hiring processes that do not use the test. Correct answer. Despite the cheating, using the test gives better results than not using it. It does not give specifics but gives the end result that we are looking for.

c) The degree of cheating on the test does not obscure each candidate’s personality This is also an interesting answer choice. But we are not concerned with the degree of cheating but the degree to which the test results do not match with the personality. What if the cheating itself gives a wrong impression, irrespective of the degree of cheating? Eliminate.

d) Testing is less expensive than the traditional interviewing process This requires the assumption that cost is the deciding factor for the companies faced with the choice of whether to use the test. We do not know this. Eliminate.

e ) Candidates who are a good fit are shown to be less likely to cheat on the test than those who are not a good fit Again, an interesting choice. The problem, again, comes with the extent of "likely". How much more or less likely? Also, this requires the assumption that companies can identify who cheated and who didn't. We do not know this. Eliminate.

Hope this helps.

Isn't C essentially saying that cheating is irrelevant since any amount of cheating will not obscure (hide) the personality. So whatever is the true personality will come out irrespective of cheating. Isn't then, C strengthening the answer? I mean if cheating has no bearing on test results (to find out personality), then surely they have no bearing on the test results and hence the conclusion is further strengthened? Not able to understand C, really.
