The difference between the value of a number increased by 25% and the value of the original number decreased by 30% is 22. What is the original number?

A. 40
B. 50
C. 65
D. 70
E. 90

Let the number be x.
Number increased by 25% = 125% of x = 1.25x
Original number decreased by 30% = 70% of x = 0.7x
Difference between values = 1.25x - 0.7x = 22, 0.55x = 22
x = 22/0.55 = 40

A. 40
B. 50
C. 65
D. 70
E. 90

We can let n = the original number and create the equation:

1.25n - 0.7n = 22

0.55n = 22

n = 40

Answer: A

25% here means 5/4 and 30% means 7/10
So, 5/4x-7/10x=22
11x=440 (on solving)
x=40

25% = 1/4

Thus, the no must be divisible by 4 ( Only 40 is possible)

NOw check -

5/4*40 - 70/100*40 = 50 - 28 = 22 (Got it)

Answer must be (A) 40
