If the time is currently 1:30 pm, what time will it be in exactly 647 hours?

A. 12:30 am
B. 1:30 am
C. 12:30 pm
D. 2:30 pm
E. 10:30 pm

Kudos for a correct solution.

647 hours = 26 days (1 day = 24 hours) + 23 hours ---> thus time after 647 hours will be 1:30 PM + 23 hours ---> 12:30 PM, C is the correct answer.

600 hours = 600/24 = 25 days.

So, 648 hours = 648/24 = 27 days.

647 hours = 27 days - 1 hour, so in 647 hours it will be 12:30 PM. Ans (C).

648 is a multiple of 24, so after 648 hrs , it will be 1:30 pm again
after 647 it will be 1 hr lesser 12:30 pm

647/24 = 26 and a remainder of 23 hours. We don't have to take care about the 26 days which passed. Only consider the 23 hours.

Assume if 24 hours passed, the time would be 1:30 pm again, but it is one less, therefore it must be 12:30 pm.

800score Official Solution:

If we divide 647 by 24, not arriving at a decimal, but rather keeping the answer in terms of an integer and the remainder, this number will represent the number of days and hours later that 647 hours is:
647/24 = 26, remainder 23.
Therefore, 647 hours from now is the same as 26 days and 23 hours from now.

The time will be exactly 1 hour earlier in the day, so it will be 12:30 pm.

The correct answer is choice (C).

647 hours means 26 days and 23 hours
23 hours means 1 hour less from 1 day.
Hence the time will be 12:30pm.

I felt this question was tricky though.
I started the same way as Bunuel, above. That is, every 24 hour rotation of the clock puts us at 1:30 p.m.

So 647 / 24 = 26 days with remainder of 23 hours.

These clock questions sometimes get tricky, so because I had 23 hours extra, I counted forward 23 hours:

12 hrs to 1:30 a.m., then

11 hrs to 12:30 p.m.

Not as simple as Bunuel's method, but especially if you are unsure about whether to go back or forward, and/or not used to military time, the
+23 remainder way works too.

Hope it helps.
