On a two-dimensional coordinate plane, the line y = x^2 - y^3 touches the x-axis in how many places?

(A) 0

(B) 1

(C) 2

(D) 3

(E) 4

x-intercept of y = x^2 - y^3 is at (0,0). The answer must be B. Also, y = x^2 - y^3 is NOT a line. The question is flawed.

Apparently it's y = x^2 - x^3 instead of y = x^2 - y^3.

In this case: the x-intercept is the value(s) of x for y = 0.

0 = x^2 - x^3;
0 = x^2(1 - x);
x = 0 or x = 1.

Answer: C.
