Carlos worked 40 hours last week, including 4 hours on Sunday. He earns $10.50 an hour regularly and 3/2 times that on Sunday. How much did he earn last week?

A. $357
B. $399
C. $420
D. $441
E. $483

We are given that Carlos’s regular pay is $10.50 per hour, and since he’s paid 3/2 times that on Sunday, he’s paid 10.5 x 1.5 = 15.75 per hour on Sunday. Since he worked a total of 40 hours, which included 4 hours on Sunday, he worked 36 hours on days other than Sunday. Thus, last week he earned:

(36 x 10.5) + (4 x 15.75) = 378 + 63 = $441

36 x 10.50 = 378

4 x (10.50 x 3/2)
4 x (10 1/2 x 3/2)
4 x 63/4
= 63

378 + 63 = 441

Which is answer D

Have a query - why is it just 3/2*10.5? why not 3/2*10+10.5 as it the qx said 3/2 times that? Do we not add the base value of 10.5?

Thank you!
