Let the height of these 3 people be

Amy - x
Ron - x+4
Barbara - x+5

If Barbara is 65 inch, then Amy is 60; Ron is 64
We have to find median 60,64,65

In My Opinion

Solution

Given:
    • Ron is 4 inches taller than Amy
    • Barbara is 1 inch taller than Ron
    • Barbara’s height is 65 inches

To find:
    • The median height, in inches, of the three-people mentioned

Approach and Working:
As Barbara is 1 inch taller than Ron,
    • Height of Ron = Height of Barbara – 1 = 65 – 1 = 64 inches

Now we know, Height of Barbara > Height of Ron > Height of Amy

Hence, median height should be equal to Ron’s height = 64 inches

Hence, the correct answer is option E.

Ron is 4 inches taller than Amy, and Barbara is 1 inch taller than Ron. If Barbara's height is 65 inches, what is the median height, in inches, of these three people?

A. 60

B. 61

C. 62

D. 63

E. 64

Since Barbara is 65 inches, Ron is 64 inches and Amy is 60 inches.

Since the heights, from least to greatest are 60, 64, and 65, the median height is 64.

Ron (R) Amy (A) Barbara (B)
R = 4 + A ; B = 1+64; A = 60
A=60; R= 64; B=65
Median = 64 (E)

A. 60

B. 61

C. 62

D. 63

E. 64

R = A + 4
B = A + 5

Given A + 5 = 65

So, A = 60 , R = 64 and B = 65

Thus, median height will be (E) 64
