Let P be the number of professors
S be the number of students
From the question stem..
S/P = 12 -- A
(S+36)/P = 16 => (S/P) + 36/P = 16 -- B
Combining A and B
36/P = 4
=> No. of professors, P = 9
Hence, No. of students = 108
New No. of students = 108 + 36 = 144

i.e. If P = x
then S = 12x
Total Students after 36 new enrolments = 12x+36
Now, 12x+36 = 16x
i.e .x = 9
