Forget conventional ways of solving math questions. In DS, Variable approach is the easiest and quickest way to find the answer without actually solving the problem. Remember equal number of variables and independent equations ensures a solution.

What is the sum of five numbers?

(1) The average of the numbers is zero
(2) Only one of the numbers is positive.

When you modify the original condition and the question, they become AN=S(A:mean, N:number, S:sum), which makes sum related to mean and number.
For 1), if mean=0, S=0 is derived from 0*N=S, which is sufficient.
Therefore, the answer is A.

->l Once we modify the original condition and the question according to the variable approach method 1, we can solve approximately 30% of DS questions.
