S1) is very easy to conclude that it is sufficient as many have shown above.

So answer choices are A or D

S2) Looks like it is insufficient and if one is not able to formulate S2 and if we are A or D answer choices, then most times one can use information from S1 to check if S2 can be proved as stated by the test writer and if so answer is D(As statements cannot contradict each other)

This problem provides a great opportunity to test that because S1 gives the total cost as 11.96.

So we can check if \(1.99*3=\frac{11.96}{2}-0.01\), which is equal. Hence S2 is true using S1. Hence answer is D.

A call to Rosie’s Psychic Hotline costs $5.99 for the first 2 minutes and $1.99 for each additional minute. Stuart called the hotline for x minutes, where x is an integer. How many minutes long was the call?

(1) The total charge for the call was $11.96.
(2) The charge for the last 3 minutes of the call was $0.01 less than half the total cost of the call

Hi Bunuel,

I got answer D.
But i have a question.

Statement 2 says last 3 minutes of the call, in which case, x >= 5. Because if x = 4, then last 2 minutes will be charged at 1.99$, however last 3rd minute cannot be calculated as it would be part of first 2 minutes charged 5.99 and can't be broken down. Is my answering correct?

Please help.

thanks
