Is x a negative number?
(1) 5x + 1 > 6x
from (1) we get,--> x < 1
x can be 0.something or negative. Insufficient.
(2) x^2 > 1
x > +-1
x can be 1.1 or -1.1. Insufficient.
From (1)+(2)
x^2 > 1 and x < 1. So x must be negative.

after combining both statements we get x>+1/-1 and x<1...I couldn't understand how x<0 because combining both I got x to be both +ve and -ve.Please help
