we can say ; x=y=z
8x=8
x=1

4x + 3y + 4 - 3y = 8
4x = 4

4x + 3y + z = 8.
we are looking for the value of x.
Statement 1: x = y = z. based on this we can substitute the value of y and z.
4x + 3y + z = 8
4x + 3x + x = 8
8x = 8.
x = 1.
Sufficient.
Statement 2:
z = y - 3y
z + 3y = y.
Given,
4x + 3y + z = 8.
4x + y = 8.
2 variables. NOT sufficient.
A is the correct answer.
