Really one of the good questions from statistics.

Since we know that set contains consecutive even integers.we require only no of terms to determine the standard deviation or variemce.(write it down as a standard rule,both for even and odd numbers.)

1) N = 10
Bingo!!
SUFFICIENT.

2)range given is 18.
So irrespective of the first term,let it be 2 or 22 or 998, the last will always be +18.
And the number of terms will always be same in each case
i.e 10..(standard rule both for even and odd)

SUFFICIENT .

D is the answer

is the formula sd = range/4 will be applicable to normally distributed sets only or applicable in every question of sd.
yashikaaggarwal
Standard Deviation = Range/4
Variance = (SD)^2

Statement 1:
Set X = 10 units.
Let unit 1 = X
Unit 2 = X+2
Unit 10 = X+18 (you can count any 10 consecutive even integer)

Range = 18
SD = 4.5
Variance = 20.25
(Sufficient)

Statement 2:
Range = 18
SD = 4.5
Variance = 20.25
(Sufficient)

Answer should be D

SD = Range/4 is not correct. It can at best give a rough approximation for certain types of sets.
