At a certain car dealership, what percent of the cars both weigh more than 1,800 kilograms and cost more than €40,000?

(1) 55% of all the cars at the dealership weigh more than 1,800 kilograms.

(2) Of the cars at the dealership that weigh more than 1,800 kilograms, 20% cost more than €40,000.

We want: percent of cars that satisfy both conditions
= (weigh > 1800 kg AND cost > €40,000)

(1) says 55% weigh > 1800 kg
Alone, this doesn’t tell us how many of those also cost > 40,000 → insufficient

(2) says: among cars weighing > 1800 kg, 20% cost > 40,000
But we don’t know how many cars are in that group overall → insufficient

Combine (1) and (2):
55% of all cars are in the “heavy” group
Of those, 20% also meet the cost condition
So total percent = 0.55 × 0.20 = 0.11 = 11%
Unique answer → sufficient

Statement 1 tells us that 55% of all cars weigh more than 1,800 kg. This alone is not enough because we don't know how those cars are split by price. ———  insufficient
