What do you think you did well? Admitted Student Advice: Part 2
We have a TON of people applying to MS programs that stop being active on the forums once they start classes. Rightfully so, because MS degree can be HARD! So I wanted to get a "last call" from all our folks before they step into their fancy business school oxfords. Here is what they had to say about what they thought they did well.
Please remember that these comments are completely unadulterated and we have not done any edits to them at all. Some of them may be controversial and some of them may not! I am glad the community was candid in sharing their advice and I hope you all prospective students would appreciate it.What do you think you did well?

Strong essays were for sure a big part of my application. I think that people should also prepare with mock interviews to understand the basic questions for MBA/Masters program that you get asked every time.

Since I didn't have much work experience when I applied, I think my test scores and GPA were the most important success factors. 760 GMAT and 118 TOEFL probably made me quite competitive.

I began to prepare early for GMAT/GRE and applications. Also, I dedicated time to meet with multiple schools' representatives, reflect on my experiences and I was honest in my statements

I was very consistent throughout my GMAT. When it comes to the application requirements, I was very well balanced, put a lot of effort in each step instead of putting 100% in some and neglecting others. Also, my timing was good.

I kept tracking all the intakes for Esade 2020 including both the MBA and MSc courses so I could get a brief idea about the Gmat score range. I noticed that people with a lower than the average score and less experience actually got an admit. So I took the risk and applied with a lower Gmat score. I was actually pretty confident that if I do well in the interview, I'll be able to get an admit as well. Also, Esade was the only school I applied to..so that worked in my favour.

LBS is the kind of school which says hey "We know we're a great school, we know you could be a great candidate. But, are we the right match for each other?"
It is important to understand the school's value proposition and draft application accordingly. I had a low GPA in undergrad (7 pointer from a tier-2 Indian engineering college), I could show LBS that I covered it up with extensive extra-curricular activities, a startup and other leadership positions I had undertaken in undergrad. I could frame a story of how those experiences led me to choose management consulting and how I could contribute to the school. In addition, having clear goals and international volunteering and travel experience helped.

I believe I have done good in the interview because the interviewer gave me astonishingly good feedback after the interview. The interviewer didn't follow the question lists to ask me a lot of behavioral questions. Instead, he seemed like a client talking about the projects with me with many technical questions and we even discussed how logic and values would be different to invest different kinds of start-ups.

I think my perseverance was the key in my journey. I dont see myself as a genius who would score 700+ on gmat by preparing for a week. For me it was a 10-12 months journey with incremental developments but I stuck through it. At times people use to frown when they got to know that I am going to reappear for GMAT in order to increase my score from 700 to 720+, but I think that was the much needed score boost to have a realistic chance at the best B schools being an Indian applicant.
