From what I read the best combo would be Barron's for Verbal and Nova for Quant?

PadawanOfTheGMAT,

Yes, that is the general recommendation. Nova's GRE Math Bible is the most recommended Math guide. But it has been out of stock for a while now and is quite expensive even if you manage to find a copy. The one currently available at amazon costs around 976$ :( Check https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/ ... dition=new

Manhattan has recently launched their new set of GRE prep guides and their Math guides look promising. I am yet to look at the contents in detail, but with 6 guides dedicated to Math alone, they seem to be more thorough than any other GRE Math preparation material. The set includes guides on Number properties, Word translations which are similar in content to the GMAT guides and are proven materials for preparation.

Barrons is the most reliable source for the GRE wordlists which is the foundation to GRE verbal. There are about 4000+ words organized alphabetically into 50 wordlists.
They have some good set of questions as well. But,you will need to get more practice on the Antonyms,RC,Analogies and SC questions.

Thanks for your message. Manhattan could be a very good source as I already study the gmat with their books and I love them.

Are you sure about Nova's outrageous prices? On their website they are fairly priced and on local amazon websites I can find prices around $30.

By the way of you hadn't told me that Nova was legit, I would have thought they were just an Apple scam. Look at the design of their website!

Really? Are you sure these are prices for Nova's "GRE Math Bible"?
Could you please share that amazon link.
I checked in amazon today and a new copy costed 900+ $.

I am surprised, because I have been keeping a track of the price of this book and as of today I am not able to find even a used book for less than 500$.

Following is the result that I am getting when I search on https://www.google.com/products

https://www.google.com/products?q=GRE+Math+Bible&aq=f
The price that ebay sells it for is around 580$.

Yeah !! But I dont see the book "GRE Math Bible" even listed in the Nova's website https://novapress.net/gre/books . I guess they have stopped printing the book. I am not sure if the one listed there "GRE Math Prep course" has content similar to that of the "GRE Math Bible".

Hmmm, you are right the product I checked out is not called the "GRE Math Bible", yet here is a $150 copy: https://www.amazon.com/GRE-Math-Bible-Je ... 963&sr=8-1

And both books the "Math Bible" and "GRE Math Prep course" have the same number of pages 528, so I guess the newest one supersedes the Bible, so one can safely buy it and save $100. An email to Nova would definitely confirm that.

As per my knowledge now GRE will not concentrate on vocabs..so it's good to avoid mugging vocabs list.

actually, what I gather is that though there will no longer be a need to memorize the dictionary (figuratively), the GRE still continue to be way more vocab intensive than the GMAT

I think the GRE will still have a lot to do with vocab. Previously it was enough if we just knew the meaning of the word. But now to answer sentence completion questions, we need to know word meanings in depth and also know when and where to use them

Hi all,

The following resources helped me the most.

1. The ETS guide (a must)
2. The 8 Manhattan GRE books. The concepts were explained really well.
3. There are a number of online test resources that are available. Even Manhattan gives you 6 free tests when you buy the books.
4. The ETS PowerPrep software.

That was all.

Regards,

Shouvik.

I think there should be an updated list because the list of books in this thread was for the old GRE and not for the new one. There was a lot of emphasis on vocabulary in the old pattern of GRE so something like Barron's GRE would have been helpful but i think it'd not be very helpful now.
Here's what I found useful for verbal
1. GRE Verbal Grail- the holy grail for verbal.. awesome especially for RCs.
2.ManhattanGRE 5 lbs book- Great for overall practice
3. Norman Lewis Word power made easy- Teaches vocab in an interesting way.

Hi guys :)
I have got the GRE test on the 8-th of December, I need one book to know how to pass this exam. Actually, I am already acquainted with this exam from books and once even passed this exam (its part only, without paying money. The preparation organization just checked our knowledge in English), so please tell me which book would is the best? It must not be large, I have got approximately 10 days to get prepared for it :)

Magoosh is a pretty good system for GRE verbal. I would recommend using Magoosh, combined with a book for vocab review like Baron's Essential Words for GRE.
