Hi everyone,

I was recently registering for my GMAT and while doing so i came across this GPA conversion table given on mba.com.
We are required to convert our equivalent GPA on scale of 4 using given coversions.

I am a graduate from india and in our country we have absolute percentage system..
I scored 79.7% in Graduation course...
By converting it on 4 GPA a scale using the above table my equivalent GPA comes out to be 2.9 :( and this putsin the third passing Grade :( ...which is definately not true and i am very disappointed with that because according to our university ratings i am among the top 10% performers of my class according to which i am in the first passing grade...

This is really a very unfair and biased method of GPA calculation...

So i was wondering that how much impact does this GPA makes when when give a certain number while registering for GMAT on mba.com...

Another thing how will i be able to calculate my true GPA which justifies my score...

So please help me out here and tell me what should i mention in my GPA column while registering for GMAT..

Your comments and suggestions in this regard will be a great help...

This is a topic which has been discussed time and again on gmatclub. Schools do not ask you to convert your marks to the GPA system.. 79.7% can be entered as 79.7% and for what it's worth an equivalent GPA would probably be closer to 4... THE GPA you report on the GMAT carries no weightage especially if you have not done your undergrad in the 4 point system

so this mean that the GPA mentioned at time of GMAT registration is not important and i should enter 2.9 there as per GMAC conversion scale..

Also 1 more question Mac..i see you have mentioned your GPA as 3.8..Could you please elaborate how you did that , what was your source for that, and what was your original Indian Grade.?..

Yes... Schools are not going to give any weightage to that 2.9...
I had my scores converted by WES... It costs about $5.. It's not a hard and set conversion but it is good for giving you an idea....
My percentage was 70 from Anna University....

Since most schools do not ask you to convert your grades, I do not know how they view WES's evaluation... However at least one top 50 school - Rice Jones - asks you to convert your scores through WES.. So there must be some level of credibility to it..
