I have booked for my GMAT slot on 05-Oct-2015. Can you please help me with some suggestions If I need to reschedule it.
I have been preparing for the GMAT exam for quite some time now (8 months) and taking mocks from Manhattan/Veritas/Kaplan etc.

With the above scores, do you advice if I should proceed with taking the actual GMAT on Oct 5, 2015.
I am exhausted preparing for the GMAT and have solved umpteen number of questions.
I am looking to score around 680+ on the GMAT.
Brief Profile Information -
Name - Vijay
Sex - Male
Nationality - Indian
Work Ex - Close to 8.5 yrs of experience in the IT industry.
Also,
Do you think it is realistic now to improve around 30+ points on the D-Day.
Also, considering the fact that I work in the IT background which is a well represented group of people who take their GMAT, do you think a score of 680 is sufficient.
I know anything more will always be good, but looking at my current scores, I doubt if I could even improve 30 + points on the actual GMAT.
The Last exam that i attempted was Exam Pack 1- GMAT Prep 4 which I had given yesterday and scored 650 on it with a split of Q49, V29.
However, to my surprise, I did not perform quite well in the Sentence correction question. Sentence correction used to be my strength, but I found that many of the questions were not simply based on Grammar but were more from the meaning based and also Idiom based questions.
Is it possible that such questions would also turn up in huge numbers on the D-Day?
I am too much worried and in a lot of tension of whether or not I would score my target of 680+.
Your suggestions will always be helpful.

The concepts you have learnt in SC are still there on the GMAT, and the GMAT is extremely unlikely to give you a "huge" number of SC questions that ask you to take only meaning calls. The GMAT just cannot change like this, at least not this quickly.
I would advise you to take the exam. At least some of the tension that you feel is going to go away if you just take the exam. But, more importantly, there is so much more that you could be showing your target schools (you've been working for 8.5 years). Keep in mind that the GMAT is only one part of your overall application. It's not a good idea to go in thinking that your GMAT score is going to either make or break your application. It'd be great if everything goes well, and you end up with a 680+. But even if you don't, you're in a better position to decide how to proceed, irrespective of whether you take the GMAT again.

Whether 680 is enough depends on the schools to which you are planning to apply. For top ten, the score is a bit on the lower side (especially if you are coming from the Indian IT segment). Note that people with 680 or lower do get selected in top ten - just that it is harder for them.
Think of the reason in this way - The schools like to maintain a high average GMAT score for the incoming class. So people whose GMAT score is at or above the average get a tick on that parameter and are judged on the other parameters. Those whose GMAT score is less than the average need to show the unique skill they bring to the table. Mind you, everyone needs to have a brilliant application and a high GMAT is no substitute but a high GMAT means no red flag in that aspect.
Is it possible for you to score above 680 in the actual GMAT? Certainly! Is it very probable? Not so sure about that. The SC section can be quite deceptive. Meaning based questions are going to play a bigger role as time passes. It is important to understand how to identify these errors. Often, idiom based questions will have other errors to help you arrive at the correct answer.
The important thing now is to consider whether you should take the test right now or postpone. Since you have been studying for 8 months, I suggest you to take the test. If you get the score you want, great - you can move on to the rest of the application. It will be a great practice run even if you do not get the score you want. Cancelling the score is always an option since it will not show up in your score card which will be sent to the school. If you do plan to retake, you will get a much better idea of how well you are prepared for each section if you get the ESR after the test.
