I recently got an updated scholarship offer from Tepper for a full ride and have about half tuition at McCombs. I need help deciding between the two. My background is in Mechanical Engineering with ~ 3 years work experience in design and manufacturing. I am looking to move into consulting post MBA, preferably with a Marketing and analytics roll (thinking customer segmentation), but I also have interests in PE (I like numbers) so my ideal industry is probably one of these. Ideal placement is New York, DC, California, or possibly international if I can find a position.
I visited Tepper for my interview and felt a little like being back in engineering school which wasn't the best feeling and I honestly don't see myself living in Pittsburgh post MBA, but I do like their minimester system and feel like it will give me more of a chance to explore what I want to do post MBA. I've been to Austin before and enjoy the city. I also think i'll enjoy the college sports atmosphere at Texas and am planning to attend their admit weekend before making my decision, but deadlines are quickly approaching.
Is the extra cost worth the time at McCombs? Any one have any advice here?

Congratulations on getting 2 great offers!
The two schools are pretty equally ranked and have fairly equal placement into consulting (at least based on what schools report - about a quarter of folks go there). However, there is a big non-quantifiable aspect and that's what you are speaking of - the feel of the school, the city, the environment, and opportunities after graduation.
Get a feel for your classmates at the admit weekend (thought it may be hard as all of you will be feeling it out and not true selves). In any case, try to mingle with the second year students/first year folks and ask them about placements into your industry/job positions - see if any have gotten it or could connect you with someone looking to be on the same career track. Have a bit of skepticism about overly optimistic alums/students - adcoms tend to invite the star performers for these types of events
