Hi everyone! I'm fortunate enough to be faced with a tricky decision, and I'm hoping you might be able to help. I've received acceptances from both Michigan Ross and Duke Fuqua. Post MBA, I'm looking to transition from operations at a for profit education company into nonprofit consulting, ideally with international development organizations. I've been at my operations job for 4 years, but before that I had a lot of international experience via internships and volunteer programs, mostly in Africa.
My priorities for my MBA are: opportunities for travel & preparedness for a career.
Regarding Ross:
The Mtrek and MAP program stand out to me as great opportunities for travel and international education.
I like that I wouldn't need a car, and I like the vibe of Ann Arbor.
Originally, I didn't care that Michigan has such a large alumni network, but I'm starting to think that it is helpful even with making basic connections. At the same time, I've found Ross students/alumni to be less responsive in general, and that has been a little concerning to me.
Regarding Fuqua:
The FCCP and GATE programs stand out as great international learning opportunities.
I like Durham a lot, but realize I would need a new car. I'm not going to drive my old one from California.
Fuquans really seem to stand together and represent that Team Fuqua spirit, so I'd like to think they would be more helpful in recruiting.
They are both incredible schools, and they both have clubs and electives that I'm interested in. I think my current social life fits in better with the Michigan scene, but I don't want that to be my deciding factor. I'm planning to go to both admit weekends for a couple of days, since they overlap, but any other insight is appreciated.

Current Duke MBA student, I was also stuck between the two.
For what you seem to care most about:
Mtrek vs. GATE/iTrek/jTrek is a wash
MAP > FCCP
Differences that are less obvious to most people are:
- Weather
- Helpfulness of a car
- Post MBA geography
- Duke > Michigan, clout wise, internationally (I have lived in 3 'western' countries, this my sentiment and that of colleagues and mentors, but is not necessarily a fact)
- Living arrangements
- School administration. I got the impression Michigan is an incredibly well administered school, from admissions to teaching. Fuqua has a 'warmer' administration, but is not run the same way as uMich.
- Helpfulness of alumni
Fuqua > Michigan for banking and healthcare, Michigan > Fuqua for marketing. These differences are slight and less important than you'd think - you do better where you are most comfortable. Consulting, tech, etc. seem to be a wash.

You can't go wrong with either school. I would go with Ross!
