Just got admitted to both Columbia J term (1.5 year program starting in Jan 2019) and Cornell one year MBA program (starting in May 2019). Having a hard time to choose between the two options mainly due to cost concern. Background: working in consulting industry for 3.5 years and want to use accelerated MBA to propel consulting career.
Would love to hear from you guys which option is a wiser option to go for:
ColumbiaPros:
1. M7 school, great ranking and prestige
2. Great location - situating in NYC
3. Possibly better placement in MBB after graduation
Cons:
1. Total cost of 1.5 years is about 45% higher than Cornell one year program. (J term has the same curriculum as 2 year program, just skipping the internship only)
2. Starting school in Jan 2019,there is a huge pressure in terms of visa application and changing geography (I am currently working in Singapore)
Johnson:Pros:
1.Forte Fellow scholarship covers 78% of my tuition cost. Which makes the one year program become easily affordable even without any loans.
2.One year program, shorter duration than CBS. Better ROI
3. Lower cost of living in Ithaca campus compared to NYC
4. There is a structure consulting program and consulting concentration (my MBA goal is to accelerate my strategy consulting career)
Cons:
1. Lower ranking than CBS, less prestigious
2. Far from NYC (4 hours shuttle bus)
3. Career placement in MBB might be lower than CBS due to the location and ranking
