I am confused between ISB and WashU (100% tution fee waiver).

I am having 4.5 years of experience as a software engineer and is mainly looking for product management roles.
My fiancee is working with Microsoft and is on L1-b in US. He wants to stay in US only. Therefore, post MBA, I intend to work in US.
However, If i consider brand and rankings, ISB is way ahead of Olin in the ranking list and is the best B school in India whereas WashU Olin is somewhere close to 25 in US.
My concerns are:
1. If I choose to pursue PGP from ISB, then how long it will take for me to move to US?
-I know about the best case in which I get into Msft/Google/Amazon and move on L1 within a year but that is quite tough as very few people get into Microsoft directly after ISB. How about other cases?

2. If I choose to pursue MBA from Olin:
a) Do international students generally get a job?
b) I have 3 years in hand post MBA to apply for H1B as I can get L2 visa to work in the mean time
c) Is masters from US going to help in getting H1B?
d) Do we generally find companies that sponsor H1B visa?

In long term career, what will be more beneficial : ISB brand or exposure from US?

If I were you, I will go for a full ride. I can't imagine myself post-MBA working in a firm with a 19L salary with a 40L bank loan.

ISB Salaries are incomparable with USA salaries... You might get 3.5-4.9 lakh INR on hand whereas ISB can fetch you only 1.5-2.5 lakh INR on hand

Hey mishugarg ,

Thanks for tagging me in. Looking at your current status and goals, I would prefer to go to Olin.

Getting an MBA from ISB and then transitioning is a tough option compared to the other option you have. Also, since you mentioned about L2 Visa, I think that will give you sufficient time and options to apply to lots of companies and H1B Visa. I think L2 is saving you here. Go for Olin.

To answer your other questions:

1. If I choose to pursue PGP from ISB, then how long it will take for me to move to US? -- This is a very tough question. It depends on the company you end up with. It could be 1 year or it could be 5+ years.

2. If I choose to pursue MBA from Olin:
a) Do international students generally get a job? -- Yes, it depends on your profile, your hardwork, network and lots of other factors.
b) I have 3 years in hand post MBA to apply for H1B as I can get L2 visa to work in the mean time -- Positive point.
c) Is masters from US going to help in getting H1B? -- Yes, as per recent changes in regulations, students with US masters will have some benefits. Read the news online.
d) Do we generally find companies that sponsor H1B visa? -- Yes, there are companies out there, especially the ones you are targeting.

Congrats on admission to both schools :thumbup:

I don't understand the dilemma here ?

You want to work in US...you want to live in US...you dont want to go "back to"/stay in India...your fiance is working in US with visa and furthermore wants only to stay in US...you got full ride with WashU Olin and you are asking me what to do ??? ;)

Come on. :-o :shocked

Super easy choice.

Go to Olin, enjoy life, enjoy relationship, enjoy free ride, get job in US after. :cool:

Forget about ISB.

ISB is brand only in India, not in US.

The rankings of Bschools by FT may not give you correct picture. As per Economist Bschool rankings, ISB is not even in top 100 but Olin is at 37. Only school in top 100 is IIMA PGPX. Please study the way each ranking focuses on one particular aspect. Economists rankings are the most balanced. Go for Olin. ISB is nowhere in comparison.
