abvit I’m graduating from McGill soon and at this point obviously biased.

Even in these challenging times I know that the career goals and aspirations of most of my cohort (myself included) were met. I successfully transitioned from Systems Administration to Business (M&A) consulting at one of the Big4 companies.

Please pm me if you’d like to set up a meeting to talk in more detail.

Hi,

I wanted to seek your insights about the McGill MBA program starting this fall v/s Smith Queens MBA which starts in January of 2022. I have been admitted to both, but the scholarship at McGill is almost double that of Queens. But I am leaning towards Queens.

I am looking for any insights into the program recognition , particularly the career support , career opportunity, alumni etc.

This forum has been really supportive & insightful through out my time researching about & applying to different b-schools.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards
Abraham
Consider factors such as Career pivot, years of experience you have and the fit according to the University. The thing with one year MBA is that you get to do it in a swish and everything is fast paced. So it is better for the people who are applying to these Universities to know what they truly want.

McGill is in a french Colony and has 44% of it's alums getting sent to Toronto and that means that 50%+ stay back in Quebec. Understanding that might also be one of the factors. Both Universities are in Canada's top 10 so your worth for the Companies will be most likely same for them.

Both the programs are good with some differences. Both programs are well recognized in Canada and among the best. Almost all the big companies recruit from both colleges. The career opportunities could be found in their career reports. Both the programs provide ample experienctial learning opportunities.

the major differences are:

1) 1 year Vs 2year MBA: Depends totally on you. in 2 year you get an internship opportunity, whereas 1 year provides less opportunity cost and could be advantageous if you already have a lot of workex

2) Montreal Vs Toronto: In Queens or in Montreal , if you are an English native then you will have to network in Toronto mostly for the Job. In Montreal you have lots of job opportunities but for English natives, Toronto provides more opportunities.

3) brand name and alumni Base: McGill is a big brand name with global recognition, whereas Queens is highly reputed in Canada. During my research I found students from both the colleges to be very approachable but since McGill university is very big it has a very large alumni base as compared to Smith.

I hope this will help, I was also facing an almost similar dilemma with Ivey and McGill, FInally, I choose Ivey and the above pointers actually helped me in choosing the one that could actually help me reach my goal.

Hi tyildirim92,

Thanks for responding. My post MBA goal is to get into consulting/digital transformation roles. Also I found the technology/leadership development programs at Banks(TD,RBC, CIBC) to be interesting & something that I want to give a short at.

Congratulations!

Off topic but, I am curious to know how the application process was for you for Queens. Did they ask for a GMAT/GRE score?
