Made another post here where Marshall was also in the mix (McCombs vs Foster vs Marshall). Now the situation is a bit different due to some scholarship changes, so I wanted to get another opinion from you kind folks.
My goals are in tech PM/PMM and I already have some PM-adjacent experience in big regional (huge brands in asia) tech companies. Brand and money is very important to me as well, but I don't want to make a decision purely based on money (since the difference between Foster/McCombs is considerable but not huge)
McCombs:
(+) McCombs bumped up my scholarship, effectively bringing the tuition of McCombs = Foster. Given the regions they are both in, McCombs is now cheaper to attend
(+) T20 and UTA brand, this is important to me for self-assurance reasons. Don't have any big brands on my resume so I need one, at least for my final degree
(+) Austin: Cheaper than Seattle apparently, although the houses downtown Austin seem to rent out at very similar prices to Seattle. Can anyone provide some cost of living insights into Austin? I heard a student can live off of $1000-1200 a month - would love if someone confirmed. Also, cannot tolerate cold weather at all
(+) More recruiting options including consulting (in case the dismal tech climate persists), and in tech also, not limiting myself to MSFT and AMZN. Seattle has a ton of tech cos, but very few sponsor internationals
(-) The 'silicon hills' are still not very confidence inspiring. The tech companies' offices in Austin are still satellite/smaller offices. I know location matters less for tech recruiting and plenty of McCombs grads go to Redmond/Bellevue/San Fran, but just wanted to have this in consideration to better evaluate my situation
Foster:
(+) 60% of the class goes into tech, although I don't find many non-MSFT or AMZN internationals. Still, a tech job is guaranteed here, as the % employed 3 months out of graduation is higher than McCombs
(+) Higher salaries and bonuses than at McCombs
(+) Much friendlier student community IMO. I truly loved the people I spoke to at Foster, and while McCombs people were cool, they seemed less invested in my success than Foster students
(+) Seattle: Undeniably the place to be for tech, HQs are present here
(-) Weak brand, small class, smaller alumni network in comparison to UTA McCombs
(-) Very little backup recruiting options if tech goes south
(-) Seattle is crazy expensive. It's a tier 1 city, so that's expected. Can anyone shed light on whether the delta between Seattle/Austin will be massive? (1.5-2x)
As a side note, I will also be interviewing at Tepper, so I would be very inclined to consider Tepper over McCombs if it comes to that (fingers crossed)

Congratulations. Seattle is expensive. Not as expensive as San Francisco, which I guess you should never apply to Stanford by that logic… Seattle has some cold weather though it rarely goes below freezing. Again, by this logic you should never apply to Harvard where it is even colder 🙃
On a serious note, Foster is a gateway to tech. Amazon and Microsoft are probably the easiest to get into so that’s where a lot of the people go. There’s also a large Google and Facebook presence here. Foster benefits greatly from being close to very big employers. McCombs is in a very similar situation - they are close to a large employment center. A lot of tech companies moved to Austin because it is cheap or cheaper. Prices have been going up but it still is quite a bit cheaper than San Francisco or Seattle. McCombs may be a little bit more diversified than Foster but I feel if tech goes down, it’ll take both foster and McCombs with them.
I would probably recommend McCombs because it is indeed a larger program and it is an area with more friendly climates towards you, where I probably would not survive 😂 it is cheaper and has a nice vibe to it. It has a little bit of a college town feel still despite all the changes happening there.
You can also go to school in Austin and then try to recruit in Seattle where the compensation is meaningfully higher due to cost of living of course. I’m not sure if Seattle is tier 1 city, it’s definitely expensive and more expensive than some places but I I feel it’s still getting there and not quite there in terms of other indicators 🤷♂️
I can see Austin being a safer play. And potentially slightly stronger national brand with benefits of a larger program.
Turn the same time, it’s not like people should not go to programs like Foster, Berkeley or Stanford because they are located in more expensive metro areas. The jobs you get a graduation in many places will adjust for cost of living. Yes it will be more expensive to live as a student but The difference in sign on bonus should more than offset the difference. Also, I would consider the opportunities that exist on the West Coast versus Texas and what kind of positions tend to be hired and what kind of companies hire at McCombs. However, with the attention and cost and preference for the climate, I can see McCombs being as a front runner. I’m not sure Tepper is going to give you a lot more however. Tepper’s main placement is Consulting, not tech. I think tech is number two or three but Wilder computer science graduates are in high demand, the same does not apply to business school so keep that in mind.

You are a goldmine of information for international students who don't have the pulse of how things actually are in these schools/cities
A little rattled by your statement of tech taking Foster and McCombs down with it thought. For a tech aspirant, that's terrifying! For the sake of me and the thousands of others, I hope that isn't true.
On a side note, would you recommend UCLA over any of the other options? (UW/UTA/CMU)
so it does not matter if you go to Anderson or Foster or McCombs.
