Hi everyone,
I'm planning to apply to the London Business School MBA (August 2027 intake) and would appreciate some guidance from admissions consultants and applicants who have been through the process.
Here's a quick overview of my profile:
While I graduated from IIT Kanpur, my CPI (6.2/10) is below the average for my department (roughly 6.5–7.0), and I also had a few backlogs during my degree.
I understand LBS places value on academic ability, and they ask the following question in the application:

- Education: B.Tech in Electrical Engineering, IIT Kanpur
- Undergraduate CPI: 6.2/10 (with a few backlogs during college)
- Work Experience: 6 years currently (7 years by matriculation) at Bajaj Finance, India's largest NBFC.
- Progressed from Software Engineer to System Analyst (Delivery Lead)
- Currently lead a team of 13 developers delivering multiple digital lending products

- In your experience, how significant are low undergraduate grades and backlogs in LBS admissions, assuming the rest of the profile is competitive?
- What do admissions committees typically look for in this essay? Are they primarily looking for an explanation of the grades, or are they more interested in evidence that the applicant can succeed academically today?
- My current thinking is to frame the essay less as a "low GPA explanation" and more as a reflection on how my approach to learning evolved. The central idea would be that my undergraduate experience taught me the importance of seeking feedback, collaborating with others, and continuously adapting, and that these lessons have shaped my professional growth, leadership style, and preparedness for LBS's collaborative learning environment. Does this seem like the right direction, or would you recommend a different approach?

Priyanka here from ARINGO. Speaking about your profile, I think you have a solid profile overall. A 695 GMAT, an IIT Kanpur background, and seven years at Bajaj Finance with clear career progression are all strong positives.
1. What are the biggest business outcomes you've delivered as a Delivery Lead?
2. Do you have any leadership or community involvement outside of work?
I think your undergraduate grades will definitely come up, but I wouldn't make the essay only about explaining the GPA. I'd focus more on what you learned from that experience, how you've grown since then, and why your professional track record is a better reflection of your potential today. Your career progression over the last seven years will carry a lot of weight.
For LBS, your work experience is a real strength. The key is showing that you've consistently grown as a leader and can contribute to the collaborative environment at LBS. If you do that well, I don't think your undergraduate record will define your application.
