I can't stop making careless mistakes at math. It's like a disease. I don't know what to do, I have tried everything, but nothing works. At least 30% of my wrong answers are due to I sum instead of adding. I forget a 0. I split a denominator. etc.
I know all the structure of the question, I do the hardest part and get it wrong because of some unbelievably stupid mistake and it just doesn't stop.
Normally my mind races a lot and I have a terrible short term memory. It is something that comes from the family I think. I instantly forget peoples' names when I meet them and I forget stuff that I knew 5 second ago (like why did I go to the kitchen?..) I also have a lot of difficulty focusing on a topic. I remember that even on the real GMAT, so max concentration, I caught myself thinking about something else in the middle of a question a few times!
I really don't know what to do. There is no time on the test to double\triple check your answers. I just got a difficult question wrong because I said 32=2^6 I mean I got the whole thing right and get it wrong because of this. What can I do??? Please people I need some help here, I don't know how to get rid of this curse!!!!!
Thank you for your input..

haahh same as me
i can tell few mistake i made.
whenever i practice i usually start solving the sum, after one point i know i will get answer, so i dont solve further. i think that i will do that in exam. it wont work that way , till the last step we have to complete every sum we are practicing.
If your making calculation mistake as you mentioned, if you are from India you will know CAT exam , i strongly suggest to work few sums on each topic from arun sharma , you will improve better.

If silly mistakes are hurting your score, then it's important that you identify and categorize these mistakes. Some examples might include: - sloppy writing causes a 7 to mysteriously turn into a 1 - you forget that a question is an EXCEPT question. - you fail to notice crucial information such as x is an integer or w < 0. - you calculate Pat’s current age when the question asked for the Pat’s age 5 years from now. - and so on
Once you have identified the types of mistakes that YOU typically make, you will be able to spot situations/questions in which you're prone to making errors.

Things that you have described are things that happen with many people:
I instantly forget peoples' names when I meet them - I don't have a lot of interest in meeting tons of people. I like to stick to a few in my core group. Hence, I don't think I really "listen" when I am getting introduced to someone.
and I forget stuff that I knew 5 second ago (like why did I go to the kitchen?..) - sometimes, it happens to all of us
I also have a lot of difficulty focusing on a topic. I remember that even on the real GMAT, so max concentration, I caught myself thinking about something else in the middle of a question a few times! - Again, on a few questions, when my mind is tired, say during the Verbal part, it might wander. I would need to bring it back.
I think you are making too big a deal of nothing. Careless mistakes are a score killer but all you need to do for that is perhaps slow down a little. Focus and pull yourself back in the game time and again. Once your logic is all figured out, take those few extra moments to do the calculations carefully.

Please don't freak out. Take it easy. Relax and just work towards minimizing your mistakes by being alert in quant section. Don't hurry up while solving problems. Also concentrate on verbal and other sections parallel in order to achieve a good score.
