Let total books = x

Sold \(= \frac{2x}{3}\)

Remaining\(= \frac{x}{3} = 36\)

x = 108

Amount obtained \(= 2 * \frac{108}{3} * 2.5\)

= 180

Answer = A

The total number of books: x. Rewrite 2.50 as 5/2. The question asks for: 2x/3 * 5/2 = 5x/3.

The number of unsold books: x/3 = 36, x = 36*3. So 36*3 * (5/3) = 180. The answer is A.

72 books were sold for $2.50 each.

OFFICIAL GMAT EXPLANATION
