Hi,
I have been using the Manhattan CR book. The strategy of reading quickly and taking notes, followed by understanding the question and analyzing the answers, helped me get most answers correct at the end of the chapter. However, it takes me 3 minutes to do that
When I didn't follow Manhattan's strategy of analyzing and taking notes, my results are horrible.
Any help?
Though I cannot comment on
Manhattan Prep's Strategy but both Powerscore, best book for CR, and Veritas, which is also known for its good CR content, suggest a different strategy.
1. Read the question Stem. Not the Stimulus but the question to understand firsthand what you would have to do.
2. Read the Stimulus.
3. Both companies recommend a different action at this point -> (Prephrase the stimulus) / (Think about the answer) before going to the options.
4. Read the options and eliminate the wrong ones.
5. If you are left with more than 1 option, Read the stimulus again and try to answer But Do Not Spend Too Much Time on this step.
This strategy does not require you to write down the notes. Additionally, this is faster because you read the question before the stimulus. So, when you read the stimulus, you already know what you have to do in the question and hence concentrate on those particular parts. For instance, if you have to strengthen/weaken the argument, you concentrate your efforts on finding the conclusion while in inference questions you already know that there would not be a conclusion. Hence, you assimilate data in those questions.
Do note that I am not sure how difficult this transition will be for you but if you have enough time, this strategy is worth a try.
