Scientists analyzing the radiation storms caused by M-type dwarf stars or flare stars have found that the radiation levels are comparable to those of thermonuclear explosions.

'Found that' followed by a relatively clause is the correct structure of reported speech. Only A and E survive.

(A) that the radiation levels are comparable to those of--- I vote this choice; Plural 'those of' the is the correct comparative word to describe the various s radiation levels of the thermonuclear explosions.

(B) radiation levels comparable to that of -- no that

(C) radiation levels that are comparable to --- no that

(D) radiation levels that are comparable to those of -- no that

(E) that the radiation levels are comparable to -- wrong comparison of radiation levels to explosions.

(A) that the radiation levels are comparable to those of

(B) radiation levels comparable to that of

(C) radiation levels that are comparable to

(D) radiation levels that are comparable to those of

(E) that the radiation levels are comparable to

I get that, the choice (A) is correct. I have a specific question about choice (B).

Can choice (B) be correct if it become " radiation levels comparable to those of" ?

Full sentence: Scientists analyzing the radiation storms caused by M-type dwarf stars or flare stars have found radiation levels comparable to those of thermonuclear explosions.

Hello Roy867,

We hope this finds you well.

Having gone through the question and your query, we believe that we can help resolve your doubt.

Replacing "that" with "those" would solve the pronoun error, but Option B would still be incorrect, as it changes the intended meaning. The sentence formed by Option B - "Scientists analyzing the radiation storms caused by M-type dwarf stars or flare stars have found radiation levels comparable to those of thermonuclear explosions." - implies that the scientists found radiation levels comparable to those of thermonuclear explosions. The intended meaning is that scientists have discovered the fact the radiation levels of the storms are comparable to those of thermonuclear explosions.

We hope this helps.

Yeah. I just forgot the meaning difference.

A) I found out that GMAT Verbal is hard.
- This one talks about some research or study that led me to conclude that "GMAT Verbal is hard."
is different than,

B) I found out GMAT Verbal is hard.
- This one is more fit in the case where I just gave the test today and made this statement.
