B it is...

Sentence requires "speculate that"... This will eliminate C,D and E..

A is out because you are speculating something to happen.. B pictures this perfectly...

I think if we choose B - "that inflation in the current fiscal year more than doubled that of" does not make sense. Is the word "of" underlined in the original question ?

B reads as :

Gasoline prices are set to rise by almost 25% fuelling the speculation that inflation in the current fiscal year would more than double of the inflation rate of 2.7 for the previous year.

Inflation would more than double of the inflation rate...??

This comparison makes no sense. Wonder how you guys arrived at B.

Can someone explain??

speculation is a kind of argumentative prediction. Hence a necessary usage of hypothetical subjunctive.
Conditional would usage is correct here. Hence B.

Thats correct, the "of" should also be underlined.

If so then only answer B is correct. :)

I agree, with the underline extended to 'of', B should be the best answer.

"Of" should be underlined as clearly indicated in option A. Considering this, none of the options are better than B.

B it is.

I learnt less from the question and more from response by sgupta0827 :). Spotted the usage of SANAM pronoun

none of the options are better than B

This is correct usage per GMAT.
