Know Your Presenters
- Laurel Grodman is Managing Director of Admissions at the Yale School of Management.
Laurel graduated with a B.A. in Psychology from Yale College and received her M.B.A. from the Yale School of Management. With deep interests in consumer behaviour and innovation, she has served as a marketer for multi-million dollar brands across a variety of industries at Unilever, Citi, and Grey Advertising. Laurel returned to New Haven in 2010, where she joined the Career Development Office at the Yale School of Management. In 2014 she joined Yale SOM Admissions, where she leads the admissions committee and drives efforts to infuse data-driven thinking into the admissions process.

Hi, I am Shereef. My question is about my professional experience. How much would it affect my application if most of my significant work experience was as a freelance consultant? I currently work 9-5 job but I’ve leverage my experience to work with startups as a consultant and I believe these are more significant.

From a work history perspective, how does admissions view a candidate being laid off from a job and subsequently being unemployed (such as for a year) due to the pandemic's impact on the job market.
