How important is it to have post undergrad work experience when applying to KF? I'm in my senior year in university of Hawaii majoring in accounting and planning to start studying for gmat in few weeks and possibly attempting the test in the spring. I do not have work experience but if I will it won't be more than 6-9 months of it partially being internship. Is it worth trying to apply?
The class profile on the KF website says average work experience for a student is 5 years. 50% of students are at or below 5 years of experience but I would have to guess there aren't that many of them with no experience. Most schools, especially the higher ranked ones, are looking for people who have been in the work world for a while and now need an MBA to go further. I know of a school that has a specific program that aims to get their undergrads to stay at that school for their grad degree. Despite this program, someone I know who had great undergrad grades and extracurriculars applied after graduation and they said they wanted her to have work experience. I'm sure it's not impossible, but I would guess you would need a stellar GPA and GMAT and also have significant extracurricular activities with leadership roles to offset the lack of WE.
