IIMs VS Insead

Question

How should one decide between IIM Ahmedabad (PGP) and INSEAD (MBA) for someone with 4-6 years of work experience in tech/product management, aiming for global leadership roles or entrepreneurship in the long run? Would love to hear perspectives on ROI, alumni network, brand value, and long-term career impact.

Both programs are very different. INSEAD is targeted toward what I would call a more eclectic group of people who have had slightly unconventional career trajectories or made slightly unconventional career choices, or they come from well-established consulting pipelines. The general outlook and the post-MBA motivations of the class are global in nature, and international exposure/focus is a key parameter in the evaluation. The class is constituted of a very global construct, and after graduation, people disperse in all directions across the globe. IIM A, on the other hand, is a rather safe and traditional program setting for experienced professionals who largely have their focus on working in India and have crossed the age for getting the traditional two-year MBAs. The opportunities are good but largely focused on the Indian market. I would say that the alumni network of INSEAD is much stronger than that of IIM A PGPX, just because of the sheer size of the class and the global spread. The IIM A branding will carry you to places, but the network largely comes from that of the flagship program, which is good too.

I would say convert them both first and then tend to find a way out. As for me it looks that if you are not limiting yourself to staying in India and are completely open to all options the INSEAD may turn out to be better investment in long term If starting a business in India is on cards then I would say save some money and get into IIM A. All the best cracking them both...

As GMAT insight mentioned INSEAD is better for long term investment for global exposure, If you need to stay within India than IIM's are better

It is really about what you desire from the program; if global exposure is what you want and you are willing to step out and take some risks, then INSEAD it is. If you wish to stay in India and wish to have a career here, IIM A is what you should look at.
