Car P:
Speed = x mph
Time travelled = 84 min = 84/60 = 1.4 hours
Distance travelled = 1.4x miles
Car Q:
Speed = y mph
Time travelled = 168 min = 168/60 = 2.8 hours
Distance travelled = 2.8y miles
Car P travels 21 miles more than Car Q.
1.4x - 2.8y = 21
x - 2y = 21/1.4 = 15
x = 49; y = 17
x - 2y = 49 - 2*17 = 49 - 34 = 15

Distance = \(\frac{7x}{5}\) (Speed*Time)..........(1)
Car Q:

Time = 168 minutes = \(\frac{14}{5}\) hrs

It is given that (1) - (2) = 21
\(\frac{7x}{5}\) - \(\frac{14y}{5}\) = 21
7x - 14y= 21*5
x - 2y = 15..........(3)
a-b will be odd only if one of them is odd and the other is even.
Since, 2y, will always be even, x has to be odd. Only two choices are left for x. 29 & 49. Substituting these values in (3).
When,
x=29, y=7. (7 is not in options eliminate)
x=49, y=17. yes it satisfies our condition. This is the correct answer
