1. From the text, we can deduce two restrictions:

- Since the alternative route is longer than the shortest distance of 56 km, the sum of the distances from A to C and C to B is more than 56.
- The distance from A to C is shorter than the distance from C to B.

2. The two largest sums that can be made from the answer choices are 59 (34 + 25) and 55 (34 + 21). Because of the first restriction, the only answer choices that work are 34 and 25.

the total distance of AC and BC should be more than 56. only last two values satisfy that
