In the diagram above each of the letters represents one of the digits between 5 and 9, not inclusive. If each row and each column must be filled with distinct digits, what is the sum of w, b and l?
(1) b + k = 14
(2) b + x = 15

each statement alone is not suff
thus we have combined statement shown in fig below
for 3 cases where b can be 6,7,or 8
let them analyze separately
case 1 when b=8 then l must be 6 which cannot be case since each row/column has different digit----discarded
case 2 when b=6 then x must be 9 which cannot be any case since evry number is between 5 & 9 not inclusive----discarded
case 3 ...only possible case
thus we can arrive at unique solution
